A “dispatch” case on commercial leather, beaded in transparent “wine” red, turquoise blue, white, dark blue and “greasy” yellow seed beads, with fringe of brain-tanned hide, probably deer. Commonly referred to as “dispatch cases” because of their similarity to cavalry dispatch cases, bags of this type were more likely used as mirror bags. This bag measerures eight by seventeen inches including fringe.

A tipi bag from the central plains, most likely Arapaho, dating from about 1875 - 1880. Made of buffalo hide and embroidered in stripes of white-heart red and powder blue seed beads, with designs in green, navy blue and “mustard” beads. Adorned with tin cones and dyed yellow horse hair. This bag measures 18 × 11 × 3 inches.

Massive and Unusual Catlinite Pipe Bowl from the Northern Plains, Ca. 1870s

This is a massive catlinite elbow pipe bowl carved in a unique form, with a grooved slab running up the front of the bowl. Probably from the upper Missouri river area, dating from the 1870s, this bowl measures approximately 4 1/4 inches long and 4 1/8 high, with a diameter of about one and a half inches. A stunning work of Plains Indian art.

A beaded tobacco bag from the Central Plains, most likely Arapaho, on thin hide, possibly antelope, decorated with the “bar” design in amber, white, ”pony trader” blue and pink beads. Original native sinew repairs to the hide. Twisted fringe. Overall length: 28 inches.
